The increasing popularity of homeschooling

The advantages of homeschooling abound. Homeschooling parents can come up with a range of different methods to teach their children and focus on subjects that their children find interesting and do well in. Parents can create lesson plans that fit the interest, maturity and ability of their children.

  1. Stronger family bond – Almost all families that homeschool say that homeschooling plays an important role in bringing everyone in the family closer. Time spent by parents on teaching their children, and learning together, can nurture a loving relationship within the family.
  2. Religious freedom – a lot of parents feel that homeschooling offers them the opportunity to incorporate their beliefs and values into their children’s learning on a regular basis.
  3. Emotional stability –children who are homeschooled don’t have to be concerned about peer pressure, bullying, and unhealthy competition so their confidence and self-esteem don’t suffer. Parents with children who have been bullied have also taken up homeschooling to make sure their children are protected from the harmful effects of provocation and harassment.
  4. Loose schedules – one of the things that homeschooling children and parents enjoy is that they do not have to work their whole life around school hours and homework. They normally are able to accomplish in just a few hours what usually takes up the whole week or even more to finish in a classroom. Since they have to perform a lot of hands-on learning, children can completely do away with homework, something that keeps traditionally schooled children up late. Parents can also plan off-season vacations, visit museums, go on field trips, parks and zoos during the week to make the most of their learning experience.
While homeschooling is growing in popularity with each passing day, a lot of people still have a very negative point of view of it. It is not surprising, even for family and friends, to criticize those who prefer to homeschool their children. However, irrespective of the opinion around you, if you feel that homeschooling is a good option for your family, research about the system and decide accordingly.
